Annertech brings Qualifax.ie to DrupalCon Barcelona
Ireland’s further education hub Qualifax.ie leverages Drupal’s workflows and Search API modules to ensure a streamlined, effective user experience for this award-winning website. Alan Burke's presentation at DrupalCon Barcelona will show you how we did it.
Session details
Session title: Over 15,000 courses and almost 1,000 different providers – developing and maintaining a custom course marketing system
By: Annertech's Director of Technology Alan Burke
Where: Room 1 (133-134)
When: Tuesday, 24 September 2024, from 3.15pm to 4pm (CEST).
Ireland’s further education portal, called Qualifax, provides prospective students with information on courses offered by almost 1,000 further education providers across Ireland.
The sheer volume of content on this site means that the standard Drupal editorial flows were insufficient. Alongside that, there are some custom editorial flows, including bypassing of work in draft, and bulk updates of content based on arbitrary values.
Annertech’s Director of Technology Alan Burke will show attendees at DrupalCon Barcelona how Annertech streamlined the process for gathering, maintaining and distributing information on educational opportunities throughout the country, and how we used Drupal to deliver this.
His presentation, titled “Over 15,000 courses and almost 1,000 different providers – Developing and maintaining a custom Course Marketing system”, will give attendees a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of this website, which was named Education Website of the Year at Ireland’s 2024 National Digital Awards.
“Qualifax.ie is a well-known site and organisation within Ireland,” explains Alan. “It was a special project because of its large volume of content, and very specific editorial requirements. We wanted to speak about it to let people know that Drupal can bend and twist and make things work within a challenging environment.“
Other ground Alan will cover
Alan will also show how Drupal’s Workflows and Search API modules were leveraged and extended to facilitate the editorial control required.
He will show how control of content contribution from external providers was allowed, as well as how Drupal’s JSON:API was used to replace a limited custom export function that existed on the previous site.
What attendees will learn
- Standard Drupal editorial flow can be limited, but still forms a sound basis for facilitating complex editorial requirements
- JSON:API forms the basis for very flexible distribution of data to third-party consumers
- Search API and facets can significantly improve not just the frontend search experience, but the backend editorial flow
For participants to fully engage and benefit from the content they need some familiarity with the standard Drupal Editorial flow.
Annertech is a Platinum Sponsor of DrupalCon Europe. We’ll also be sponsoring the contribution room, and of course we’ll have a booth in the exhibition area. We can’t wait to see you there!
