DrupalCon Barcelona: Our highlights
From sponsoring the event and the contribution room to social activities and Annertechies taking to the mic at least seven times, Barcelona 2024 could go down as one of our busiest DrupalCons yet.
DrupalCon Barcelona 2024! What a blast! There was so much happening that the week flew by. But these are our highlights from an epic Drupal conference:
We had five presentations!
This was a bumper year for Annertech DrupalCon sessions:
- Director of Technology Alan Burke presented two (on the Qualifax and Brand Orange projects)
- Managed Services Director Anthony Lindsay spoke about the Love Essex microsite
- Account manager Karen Leech took us through movements we can do at our desks, and
- Frontend developer Tony Barker was part of the Initiative Leads keynote address.
Coffee Chronicles with Platform.sh
Our Managing Director Stella Power joined Platform.sh at their booth to chat to Tejas Patel about how Annertech leverages Platform.sh to integrate its dev tools and get the best performance for clients’ websites.
Stella takes part in Platform.sh’s Coffee Chronicles at DrupalCon Barcelona.
Stella joined the Drupal Association board
Stella was elected to the Drupal Association board. Her new role was ratified at the public board meeting that took place at DrupalCon Europe.
This is a great opportunity for Stella, who is excited about contributing more to Drupal and the community.
We were a platinum sponsor
Annertech was, once again, a Platinum Sponsor of DrupalCon Europe, and we had a booth in the exhibition area.
We love hanging out at our stand, meeting new people, and seeing old friends who popped by to say hello.
It’s one of our favourite things about DrupalCon. Thank you to all of you who came to chat.

The contribution room
Annertech also sponsored the contribution room. This is such an important part of DrupalCon – it’s where all the action happens, where Drupal is updated and improved.

Nearly 300 contributions were logged on Drupal.org during DrupalCon Barcelona. Thank you to all the developers and mentors who passed through the contribution room this year.
The Volunteer App
Our very own John Cook was the volunteer coordinator at DrupalCon Europe – his sixth time doing this mammoth task. And this year he brought his very own app to the party.

This app was a game-changer for those who volunteer at DrupalCon. Not only did the app list the various tasks, but each one also had a handy checklist, which made it so much easier for volunteers to know what they were expected to do.
It also gave the coordinators an overview of which tasks still needed volunteers, which ones had been assigned, and which ones had been completed.
Trivia Night
We’re biassed, because we are involved in the organising of Trivia Night at DrupalCon Europe, but it was one of our favourite things about our Barcelona trip.
The last night of DrupalCon Europe saw a brilliant edition of Trivia Night, with Alan Burke once again taking to the mic as quizmaster.
Quizmaster Alan Burke had a captive audience at DrupalCon Trivia Night.
The L’Estació Espai Gastronòmic was packed with nearly 300 enthusiastic DrupalCon attendees, who created teams of five and tried their hand at answering some brain-crunching questions, set by Stella Power (with some help from Juanluis Lozano and Rouven Volk).
Annertechies were out and about as judges and runners (and even taking part), and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

A special thank you to Marine Gandy, who co-MCd; Hilmar Hallbjörnsson, Anthony Lindsay, Tony Barker, Tom Bamford and John Cook who judged the answers; and to runners Alison Visser, Ricardo Galán, Karen Leech and Stella Power, who kept the answer sheets flowing.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered and attended. It was a great way to bid farewell to DrupalCon Europe.
Conclusion
DrupalCon Barcelona 2024 was a great one and besides DrupalCon Dublin, which we helped organise in 2016, was one of our busiest.
Having said that, we’re looking ahead to DrupalCon Vienna 2025 and can’t wait to reconnect with the Drupal community again.
