Love Essex is a site dedicated to dealing with waste in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

It may sound like an ordinary subject, but Love Essex is no ordinary website. It’s technically not even a website – it’s a microsite that functions brilliantly, and efficiently educates and guides people on how to deal with their waste.

The point of the Love Essex site is to change behaviour – to reduce waste, cut down on the number of items going to the landfill, and encourage reusing and recycling items. Ultimately, the site connects users, who have an item they need to dispose of, with options on what to do with it.

How did Essex and Annertech do it? They put the end user at the very core of the creation process.

The Love Essex website is viewed on a phone, laptop and tablet.

The Love Essex microsite is responsive, so it’s easy to use on all devices.

Annertech’s Managed Services Director Anthony Lindsay will take the LocalGov Drupal community behind the scenes of the Love Essex microsite and demonstrate what makes it unique. He’ll chat about how the end user’s experience drove the process from beginning to end, as well as how the seemingly straightforward requirement of “we need a search” was adapted to become an intricate solution which looks elegantly simple to the end user.

And it’s not just the customer, or the end user, who was taken into consideration. Love Essex is a case study in how editors can respond to the changing needs and conditions of the county.

Anthony will show you how easy it can be.

What you will learn:

  • How the motivations of end users can be considered to drive data models and interaction design.
  • How Drupal can make managing large pools of content efficient and straightforward.
  • How getting the data model right is fundamental to success.
