Annertech is at DrupalCon Europe next month! Find out how we're contributing.
As mentioned in an article back in July, DrupalCon Europe is going online again this year. Annertech will be deeply involved as usual - speaking, sponsoring, attending and contributing. Let's have a look at what we'll be up to over the four days.
Each year, Annertech is actively involved with DrupalCon, with many team members attending, volunteering and speaking at the event. This year is no different, so here are some of the ways Annertech is contributing to DrupalCon Europe 2021.
1. Speaking
50,000 Ads and Growing - Sorting [and Searching] the Good from the Bad: How we Built CarsIreland.ie
Our Director of Technology, Alan Burke, will be going into the details on the challenges we overcame when building classified ads site, CarsIreland.ie, in his session 50,000 Ads and Growing - Sorting [and Searching] the Good from the Bad: How we Built CarsIreland.ie. With multiple integrations to external services, including a custom content API, Typesense.org and AWS, this session will walk through the key features of the site, talk about all we learnt, and indeed all the fun we had, putting this site together.

Theming for Distributions: Sub-theming like a Pro
Our Director of Development, Mark Conroy, will be speaking about Theming for Distributions: Sub-theming like a Pro. Joined by fellow contributors from Agile Collective (Maria Young) and Champion Internet (Dan Champion), this session will look at the theming challenges that they overcame recently when rewriting the base theme for the UK LocalGov Drupal distribution.
Find out how this new theme rewrote each template to better follow Drupal standards, while they also wrote a new grid system, based on the gov.uk design system. Their session is on early afternoon on the third day of the conference - Wednesday, October 6 - 13:00 to 13:45 UTC, Room 3.

Also speaking is one of our senior frontend developers, John Albin Wilkins. John will be speaking about The accessibility mistake our entire industry is making. He will discuss how recent testing revealed that a whopping 70% of websites have a serious accessibility issue, and how we can work together to bring access to everyone.
John's session is on Wednesday, October 6 - 14:30 to 14:50 UTC, Room 1.

3. Advisory & Track Chair
I have decided to volunteer some time as a member of the advisory committee again this year. I've been involved in the organisation of both DrupalCon Amsterdam 2019, DrupalCon Europe 2020, and now 2021 - assisting wherever possible.
Our front-end guru, Juanluis, is also track chair for Makers & Builders stream this time. In previous years, Mark Conroy, our Director of Development, has chaired the Frontend and Site Building tracks, while I have chaired numerous tracks from Agency & Business to Higher Education.
4. Trivia Night
As usual, we've been busy preparing and writing questions for "Trivia night". The Trivia event has been one of the highlights of DrupalCon for many years, ever since the first one at DrupalCon Chicago 2011!
So if you think you know Drupal or have enough general web / tech knowledge, then get your team of 5 together and come join us for the best night of DrupalCon - there are prizes to be had! Trivia night is on the evening of Wednesday 6th October.
